All of February, Piedmont spring sports teams have been grinding every day towards competitive conference play in hopes of winning a conference championship.
But if there is one week that every student looks forward to each spring, it’s the infamous college spring break.
This year, spring break falls on March 9-17. Unfortunately for athletes playing spring sports, a trip to the beach is typically out of the picture.
Luckily for the Lions, this year most teams will be traveling north and south to compete in their respective sports for a team-issued vacation.
Men’s and women’s tennis will appear for the second year in a row in Orlando, Florida for four days of matches against competitive collegiate programs from all over the country.
Women’s golf will travel to Savannah, Georgia for the Savannah Invitational. The men’s golf team will travel in the opposite direction to Farmville, Virginia for the Tiger Invitational.
Women’s lacrosse will also travel to Virginia and play their first USA South game of the season against Southern Virginia University, and a non-conference contest against Randolph College.
Softball will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to play in the William Peace Triangle Classic before playing their first conference game in Berea, Kentucky on March 17.
Last but certainly not least, track and field will hit the road for Jacksonville, Florida to compete against the University of North Florida at the tail end of the break.
Baseball and men’s lacrosse will be competing against tough opponents with home-field advantage all week in Demorest.
Baseball will play Methodist University and Emory University over the course of six games, one of which will be played in Atlanta on Saturday at Emory. The rest will be played at Loudermilk Field.
Men’s lacrosse will start the week on Monday, March 11 against Spalding University before playing Southern Virginia University in their home conference opener on Saturday, March 16.
This year, spring break is packed full of contests across the board for each sport. Keep up to date with how the Lions fare throughout the season at piedmontlions.com.
