Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team took a trip to Salem, Virginia and swept the Roanoke Classic, defeating Greensboro College 79-54 on Saturday and Stevenson University 74-50 on Sunday.
“I think we showed up ready to play,” freshman Lexi Jarrard said. “We knew what it was going to take to win and we played hard defense and didn’t let off the gas Pedal. We shot the ball really well and everyone was brought into the game. Overall we played great defense and had a good game.”
Against Greensboro, senior Laken Stiles played a big part on the court, dropping a career-high of 22
points, with 34 minutes and going 6-for-8 from the free throw line. Junior Kennedy Henson contributed 16 points in 23 minutes played. Against Stevenson, junior Andelin Hill scored 14 points with 7 rebounds and was named MVP of the tournament. Junior Kennedy Henson also earned all-tournament honors after scoring 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting.
The Lions are rolling with a 4-0 start on the season. Piedmont will host Birmingham-Southern College on Nov. 25.

Men’s Basketball
After defeating host Wheaton College 79-66 on Friday, the Piedmont’s men’s basketball team defeated Alma 80–71 on Saturday to secure the Lee Pfund Classic Championship in Chicago.
“Chicago was a successful trip for us,” said freshman Israel Hall. “Losing our first game to beating the Piedmont record for most points earned in a game showed our potential for the season. The game on Saturday where we played Wheaton showed our strengths as a team. We were able to cruise past Wheaton with a strong defense. Playing Alma, we had a few turnovers, but once we cleaned up and had the lead, we were good after that.”
Picking up where he left off last game, graduate student Ryan Jolly led the Lions with 13 points in the first few minutes of the game without missing a single shot. Jolly shot 4-of-4 from the floor, including 3-of-3 from three-point range.
Going into halftime, the Lions maintained a 44-43 edge. The first five minutes in the second half wasn’t so much of a breeze for both Piedmont and Alma as both teams scored a total of five points combined.
Not far behind Jolly, senior Joe Helenbrook scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Scots got as close as five points in the last five minutes of the game, but the Lions were ableto hold them off.
“Going into the half, we were hanging in there with just being down by one,” Hall said. “Coming out after the half, it was slow for us, but after we regrouped, we were able to get back in the groove of things. I feel very confident and ready going into the rest of this season with being 3-1,”.
Up next, the Lions will host Methodist on Nov. 25 at noon.

Women’s Swimming
The women’s swimming team placed second behind host Sewanee in this weekend’s matchup at the Igloo Invite.
Facing good competition, the Lady Lions fared well. “I think our women’s swim team did great considering the adversity we have faced this season with our pool not
being accessible,” sophomore Maggie Bishop said. “I believe that the adversity has made us stronger and it made us a tougher team when it came to racing in the pool this weekend.”
Eight records fell at the meet. Freshman Kelly Mashburn took six of those records, including placing second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.02.
The team will get some time off before their next meet on Jan. 8, as they will travel to Union College in Kentucky.
