Hebrews 11:1 states, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Tucker Cox, a junior on Piedmont’s CCS champion cross-country team, takes those words to heart.
“Since my faith comes from him it takes all the pressure off me,” Cox said. “I can do nothing to earn or deserve God’s grace and mercy, yet he gives it to me anyway. This has allowed me to rely on him in everything: in school, in running, in life.
A North Oconee High School graduate, Cox is a nursing major and runs on Piedmont’s cross-country team. While Cox acknowledges the influence his professors, coaches, teammates, and family and friends have had on him, he attributes his success to something bigger.
“Everything is from God,” Cox said. “Even the faith that Christians have stems from him. He gives us the gift of faith to believe in him and the death and resurrection of his son.”
Cox has played a big part in the cross-country team’s conference championship season. In the CCS Championship meet, he finished 7th with a time of 28.39.6. This followed up his impressive 2022 performance, when he finished with a time of 27:31.8 at the championship meet, ranking him 16th on the all-time list of Piedmont University cross-country performances.
“Tucker is a critical part of our team’s success,” said head coach Jamie Jimson. “His commitment to the process, and the manner in which he conducts himself is an example to his teammates. It has allowed him to become one of the best runners in school history.”
His leadership extends off the course, as Cox inspires others to follow him and learn the gospel of the Bible. He empowers every student to achieve their goals and sets great examples for themselves. Cox said he feels compelled to spread the word because his faith has been so impactful in every aspect of his life.
“Whatever so-called success I have in school, running, or life, I know it comes from God and that he deserves the glory.”
