Call your landlord because your “RENT” is almost overdue as opening night for the rock musical “RENT” is September 28!
As many days and multiple rehearsals have passed, “RENT” will be showcased from September 28th through October 1st. The Piedmont University Theatre Department is taking the stage to highlight the production written by Jonathan Larson. “RENT” follows the story of an aspiring filmmaker and songwriter, Mark, and former drug addict Rodger who is Mark’s roommate. They confront the challenges of trying to find happiness whilst living in the artistic lower class. This production focuses on heavy topics like AIDS, homophobia, poverty, and drug addiction. Due to these heavy topics “RENT” is intended for mature audiences.
For this production Bill Gabelhausen is the director, Benji Stegner a Piedmont alum and part of the Piedmont music faculty are the music directors, another alumni Jo Collinson is the assistant choreographer, and Senior Sof Delgado is the stage manager. With the cast, there are familiar and unfamiliar faces with freshmen in the ensemble and as lead players.
You cannot miss this production! “RENT” will be performed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, September 28-30, at 7:30pm and Sunday, October 1, at 2:00pm on the Mainstage Theatre in the Swanson Center for the Performing Arts & Communications in Demorest.
