Piedmont volleyball has boasted a bold offense this year.
Juniors Jenna Ash, Jessica Sconiers, and Vanessa Manzo are returning, as are sophomore Katie Hubbard and seniors Taylor Herrmann, Mary Grace Shaw, Brooklyn Gunn, Destiny Deetz and Alaina McDonald, just to name a few.
The player who has really shown this year and who has already caught the spotlight of the Collegiate Conference of the South has been freshman Kaylee Ashcraft.
Ashcraft has been the CCS Rookie of the Week for volleyball for the past 3 weeks as of the writing of this article. She sits at the top of the CCS and NCAA Division III leaderboard in service aces. Ashcraft has managed to achieve all of this as a freshman.
Alongside Ashcraft, Piedmont’s libero and defensive specialist Taylor Herrmann was honored as the defensive player of the week. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Hubbard was the CCS Offensive Player of the Week.
Piedmont is riding high, winning 7 of their last 10 matches and are currently 3-2 at home this season, coming off their most recent tri-match against Berea College and Huntingdon College.
They defeated Berea with a set score of 3-2, but were swept in 3 straight sets against Huntingdon. Herrmann came into the tri-match needing 15 digs to cement her legacy with 1,000 career digs, and ended up recording 35 against Berea. Ashcraft ended the event with 5 total service aces, improving her total to 67 this season.
While this season is far from over, the Lady Lions have been firing on all cylinders so far as one of the top teams in the CCS. Keep up to date with volleyball and their season on piedmontlions.com.
