Piedmont University’s Theatre will showcase the musical “RENT” directed by Bill Gabelhausen. “RENT” follows the life of a group of artistic friends, some dealing with struggles in love, career, or view of life and their stories are weaved together in Manhattan’s East Village. Showcasing a raw and emotional portrait of the gritty bohemian world of New York City in the late 1980s, when HIV/AIDS was seen differently compared to today. Auditions were August 22nd at Swanson Center’s Mainstage Theatre. Auditionees had to prepare a one-minute contemporary dramatic monologue and a one-minute excerpt of a song from “RENT”. After all the auditions the cast is finally announced! With Ethan Spinks as “Roger Davis”, Gabriel Richman as “Mark Cohen”, Dante Wilson as “Tom Collins”, Dakota Rose Chen as “Mimi Marquez”, Gracie Tipton as “Joanne Jefferson”, Clayton Maddox as “Angel Dumott Shumard”, Lexie Partain as “Maureen Johnson” and Tommie Sirmans as “Benjamin Coffin III”. As for the ensemble, you will be seeing Glorianna Ames, Aubrie Burrell, Laurana Layton, Tucker Cochran, Mackenzie Cain, Lyric Rogers, Max Daves, Alivia Fuller, Delyna Fuller, Ava Kerpics, and Jenna Meinberg. Currently the cast and the backstage crew is working hard after each rehearsal to give the best show they can. “RENT” will be performed from September 28th – October 1st at Swanson Center’s Mainstage Theatre.
