Two Piedmont teams will be under new leadership this upcoming season. Women’s lacrosse and men’s golf will enter the 2023-24 season with new people in charge for the first time in many years for both teams.
Former women’s lacrosse head coach Kirsten McKay took a position at USA South rival Methodist College. McKay spent four seasons as head coach of Piedmont, finishing a career best runner-up in the USA South championship in her first season.
Piedmont have promoted former assistant coach Brooke Thacker to head coach of the women’s lacrosse team. This is Thacker’s first head coaching position in her career, after previously spending the last two years as the assistant coach, and the two seasons prior as assistant coach at North Carolina Wesleyan College.
Thacker will officially take charge of women’s lacrosse in their spring season. There has been no assistant coach hired as of publishing.
Men’s golf have teed off their fall season but have started without former head coach JP Kircher.
Kircher accepted a position at Colgate University at the beginning of the season, after spending nine years as the director of golf and men’s golf head coach. Kircher achieved many accolades during his time at Piedmont, most notably one CCS Coach of the Year award, six team titles, and an NCAA team runner-up last spring.
Former golf head coach and current athletic director Jim Peeples has taken over as head coach until the position has been filled. Men’s golf have already taken part in the Greystone Fall and Gate City Invitationals and will take part in four more invitationals before the end of the fall.
Junior Cam Lucas tied for first place in the Greystone Fall Invitational, and the team finished 3rd out of eight teams. In the Gate City Invitational, the team finished 17th of 48 teams.
Men’s golf start their CCS campaign in the spring, looking to improve on their NCAA runner-up finish.
