Piedmont University is celebrating 125 years as an institution at its second annual Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022.

“The Alumni Office is excited to welcome alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff and friends to participate in this momentous event,” says Katie Deal Comeau, Director of Alumni Engagement and Development.

The Office of University Advancement has organized the affair and celebrations. These celebrations include food vendors, an open meeting by the Alumni Association Board of Directors and live music. Most events do not require registration but are highly encouraged.

The day will start with a welcome breakfast for new students and alumni, followed by the open meeting by Alumni Association Board of Directors. The open meeting will be immediately followed by the groundbreaking of the Alumni Plaza on the Quad which will soon feature tribute pavers for Piedmont alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends. The new Alumni Plaza is also planned to feature a water display and seating in the quad.

Registration will be required for the celebratory luncheon in the Commons following the ceremony of Alumni Award recipients and Sports Hall of Fame inductees. Tickets for the upscale luncheon will be $15 per person.

Registration is required to receive the complimentary gift package for class reunion attendees as well. The classes of 1972, 1982, 1997, 2002, 2012 and 2017 will each be celebrating respective graduation milestones.

“Homecoming is traditionally a time to celebrate school spirit. Last year, Piedmont held its first Homecoming as Piedmont University,” says Comeau. “This year, we will celebrate our 125th year as an educational institution, a remarkable feat.”

The 125th anniversary celebrations begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Arrendale Amphitheatre with live music from The Shoal Creek Bluegrass Band. Food will be available to purchase from Chick-Fil-A, Subway and Georgia Concessions Barbeque, in addition to desserts from Cowboy Bob’s. Attendees, including students, will have access to a beer and wine tent for individuals 21 and over with a valid I.D.

The Alumni Association will have t-shirts, hats and tumblers available for purchase to commemorate the day in addition to free SWAG giveaways.

The evening will conclude at Swanson Center Mainstage with the presentation of Peter & the Starcatcher by the Piedmont University Theatre Department, directed by Professor John Spiegel, at 7:30 p.m. To purchase tickets contact the Theatre Department Box Office at 706-778-8500 x 1355.
