The Roar staff attended the annual Georgia College Press Association (GCPA) conference Feb. 10-11 at Mercer University. Campus newspapers from colleges and universities all over the state were invited.

The Roar recieved several awards after entering into the GCPA Better Newspaper Contest, including:

• First place: General Photography

• First place: Best campus community service- news

• Second place: Best campus community service- features

• Third place: Best entertainment feature

• Third place: General Excellence

Dr. Dale Van Cantfort, chair of the mass communications department said, “I’d like to say congratulations to the entire staff but particularly to Cammie Bagley and Lauren Bartlett for their leadership and also to their adviser Joe Dennis. The paper has continued to improve and has transitioned well in the digital era.”
