The Problem with being an Extrovert

NICOLE THOMAS Staff Writer

There are a lot of perks to being an extrovert. For example, people who are extroverted may have an easier time making friends. However, speaking from personal experience, there can be a lot of disadvantages that go along with being an extrovert.

The biggest struggle is being alone. Unfortunately, there are times where we cannot be with people 24/7. I think it’s even harder for people with mental illnesses who are extroverts to be alone. I have OCD, and I know that when I’m alone my obsessive thoughts will get worse. However, there are things that you can do for fun and to be productive in your alone time that will help being by yourself not so bad.

Cleaning your room can help you to calm down and feel more organized, which will eliminate any anxiety about being alone. Decorating your room or dorm door is a great idea because it’s the holiday season. You can post holiday themed quotes that you write on sticky notes. You can also put holiday pictures up. Other things to do when you’re alone are doing your homework or studying. It can never hurt to get ahead with your school work.

Picking up a hobby is also a great way to spend your time. You can find a hobby you like and work at getting better at it. There are lots of hobbies that you can do in your spare time. Some include knitting, painting, writing, drawing, reading or singing. Some things around campus that can be fun to do alone are visiting the art museum and taking classes or working out at the gym. Both of those things can occupy your mind and entertain you without needing another person around. In conclusion, it is still possible for extroverts to do fun things and be productive, even when they’re alone.
