According to the New York Times, gunfire erupted Fri., Nov. 27, inside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Co. Five hours after the first shots were fired, the shooter surrendered but not after killing three and wounding nine.
Planned Parenthood is a healthcare organiza- tion with clinics across the country that specialize in reproductive health. It has come under attack before because of its stance on abortion.
Authorities on the scene reported that one of the three killed was a police officer. According to CNN, the officer’s body was escorted out early Saturday morning by his fellow officers. Five other officers and four civilians have been hospitalized and are reported to be in good condition.
The New York Times wrote that police identi- fied the shooter as 57-year-old Robert Lewis Dear. However, the police stated that they are currently unsure of Dear’s motives.
