Travelers and students live in a world where they count on their smart phones to help them plan, navigate and find tips while traveling. With their smart phones comes apps that can be downloaded to their phones.
Theses apps can also help with knowing what items to pack, getting directions directions to one’s final destination and keeping all itinerary information in one place.
Below is a list of apps a student who wants to travel and/or study abroad should use during international experiences:
CityMaps2Go – This app offers offline maps, so there doesn’t have to be any worries of finding WiFi or using expensive data plan over seas. It also offers multifunctional lists to plan and organize one’s trip, insider tips and new places to discover. There is a free option and a paid option at $4.99. It is available for iPhone and Android.
Pack Point – A great app that provides a packing list for any traveler. According to iTunes, Pack Point will actually offer recommendations on what one should pack, depending on the length of the trip, the country’s weather conditions and activities planned for one’s trip. The app is free, and its available for iPhone and Android.
TrackMyTour – According to iTunes, this app allows travelers to map the journey and share the experience with family and friends at home. Users can highlight different locations, post comments and send images of the place they are visiting. The app is free and available for iPhone and Android.
iTranslate – The name speaks for itself. The app helps travelers translate words from a foreign language. According to iTunes, the app can translate over 90 languages. It also offers a voice input so one could hear the accent of the foreign language. The app is offered for free and can be purchased for $4.99 to access all of the application’s features. The app is available for iPhone and Android.
Vayable – This app provides inside information from locals that reside in cities and towns, which means a traveler will have the chance to experience the best local activities. The app is free and available for iPhone.
Currency Converter – Currency Converter helps travelers convert different foreign currencies, understand conversion rates, sell one currency for another and more. There are many currency converter apps available for iPhones and Android. Most are available for free in iTunes and Google Play App Store.
Duolingo – This app offers to teach 10 different languages – Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Irish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish and English. According to iTunes, the app is completely free with no hidden ads or charges. Duolingo is a great app to use on the go. The app is available for iPhone and Android.
Airbnb – Want to spend a longer time period in another country and not have to pay lots of money for a hotel? Airbnb allows a traveler to find a place to rent for weeks or months in a room or an apartment. According to iTunes, there are over 34,000 cities with places to stay. The app is offered for free for iPhones and Android.
