Netflix & Chill – Find Your Next Flick: The Lighthearted Comedy Edition

Since last issue’s picks were a little dark, I’ve chosen a few shows that are more lighthearted and funny.

First off is the series Arrested Development. I think this show is hilarious. The show was on the FOX network several years ago, but it was cancelled. Then, Netflix saw a good opportunity and made another season. This show is definitely worth a watch because each episode is only about 20 minutes and is one continuous story. For those who haven’t seen it, the main plot line is about a rich family that lost everything when it was discovered that Patriarch, a character played by George Bluth Sr., had several bad business deals, landing the family in financial jeopardy. The series casted several stars like Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Portia De Rossi and Will Arnett.

My next pick is the NBC comedy, Parks and Recreation. It stars Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Nick Offerman, Rob Lowe and many others. The series is about Leslie Knope, the director of Pawnee, Indiana’s Parks and Recreation Department, and how she deals with her boss, co-workers and other government officials while she rises on the government ladder. This show is one my all-time favorites. The show is similar to NBC’s The Office in its comedy and plot style.

My last suggestion is the FX series, The League. This show is about a group of adult friends who take fantasy football very seriously. They all lie and cheat to win each week, leading to the playoffs for a trophy they call The Shiva. The show is currently in its last season on television, but Netflix is up-to-date with the episodes and is a quick watch for any seasoned binge watcher. This show often has crude humor and adult situations that is not suited for young or immature eyes.

With these comedic stories, I’m sure laughter will fill the dorms on campus while students enjoy some free time with the best Netflix has to offer.
